The Tax Justice Network of Latin America and the Caribbean (Red de Justicia Fiscal de América Latina y el Caribe-RJF-ALC) and the Latin American Network for Economic and Social Justice (Red Latinoamericana por Justicia Económica y Social – Latindadd) organize and invite social organizations, civil society, unions, authorities, leaders, activists, members of the academy, etc. from the region and the world to the conference “After the Pandemic, the War” to analyze and propose courses of action in the midst of the multidimensional crisis that we face as humanity.
After the most difficult part of the pandemic, between 2020 and 2021, which meant death and misery for millions of people in our continent that carries more than 30 percent of the world’s deaths caused by this fact – although a few continued to get rich; the consequences of the war that began in February 2022 with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which also configures a greater West-East geopolitical confrontation, are, now, beginning to be felt.
The rise in fuels and foods such as wheat, soybeans, and corn, together with the shortage of fertilizers, has established a major challenge to our already hard-hit countries, not only due to the pandemic, but also due to a structure of inequalities, environmental damage and death caused by colonial capitalism and the patriarchal order. Thus, the challenges we face are not only economic-social, but multidimensional and intersectional. The sustainability of life is at stake.
This conference will be semi face-to-face. In other words, it will take place in person in the city of Lima, it can also be attended online from anywhere in the world, both in English and Spanish. This event will have four axes of discussion:
Tax Justice, New Financial Architecture, Transformative Economies and Regional Integration. Likewise, it is expected to conclude with a declaration that contains reflections, analyzes, and diagnoses on what is happening in the world from the perspective of the proposed axes, but also the main lines of action that give continuity and update to the declaration “Change the Rules to Preserve Life” promoted by Latindadd, immediately after the quarantines began in 2020. This conference will have a general opening table and seven specific tables, the ones that will feed a previous declaration proposal that will be prepared by an ad-hoc commission made up of people linked to both the RJF-ALC and Latindadd.
